teaching my girls to sew...

These are my girls, Tasha and Laura. I had so much fun teaching them how to sew. Now, both of them have their own machines, but they always manage to come around at just about the right time - that is - when my newest fabric stash arrives in the mail :) Look how messy our sewing area was during the holidays...oh well sometimes, no clutter, no fun eh? Here are some pictures of them with their first finished purses. I'm so proud of them, they did a wonderful job...look at those smiles!

This is Laura, she is currently working on her first quilt and has sewn many purses since this one (and she's only been sewing for about two months!). This one she donated, along with a matching wallet and key fob, to a silent auction fundraiser at our local hospital where she works as an x-ray technician. She's even sold some of her bags to friends and co-workers and I think every woman in her family received one at Christmastime. Yup...she's definitely caught the fabric bug!

This is Tasha and her first purse was a tote that she made as a Christmas present for her mommy. (By the way, she loved it!) Since then, she is working on Amy Butler's Sophia pattern for a friend and I suspect that her two little dachshund doggies, Roxy and Moosie, will be getting new clothes sometime soon!

my first craft show

Look at my beautiful banner my sister Sandy made for me... isn't she a talented seamstress? She is the one who taught me to sew when I was a little girl about 40 or so years ago. Whew! I've been sewing for that long? Anyway, she made this for my first show which was this past December. Forty years of crafting and I just had my first show...can you believe it? I've sold in stores and taken orders for purses, I've even been in shows for our local art gallery, but I haven't physically sat at a show until recently. And let me tell you, it was a lot of work sewing enough bags to set up a whole display! Sandy and Laura helped me immensely with button sewing, tagging, ironing, etc. and my sons, Michael and Joshua built and set up my display platforms. I wouldn't have finished in time if it hadn't been for all of them. But, we had a great time together and it was rewarding to hear so many nice comments about what I love to do anyway. I discovered that the sincerest form of flattery for me is not the money I make, but watching someone walk away excited about their new purse. To create something...anything...that someone else wants to own and use or give as a gift...that just about does it for me. Here are some more pictures of that day...

These are wallets and button bracelet and earring sets made with Vera Bradley fabric. I also had lots of key fobs on the display tree above that didn't show up in the picture.

inspiration times three...

I found it really difficult choosing a name for my new business. Your name says so much about you and I wanted mine to be catchy and easy to remember, but I also wanted it to reflect what was important to me in life, after all, it was going to be my very own adventure, one that I create and have full control over. I started thinking about what inspired me in life and without a doubt, it has to be my three sons. I took the first two letters from each of their names and arranged them in birth order and came up with the name Majomi. So, MAtthew, JOshua, and MIchael, I hope I inspire you to reach for your dreams as much as you have me.

it's never too late to become what you are meant to be

Here they are, all my fabrics stacked neatly on my studio shelves. They are just like me...waiting to become what they are meant to be.
